7th December 2004 - Dido's Proud Of Band Aid 20
Despite Dido's huge album sales, she's proudest of her recent involvement
in Band Aid 20, a charity record that is close to her heart. She said,
"I loved it. Band Aid was the first single I bought. I was 13 and I was
getting a stereo for my Christmas and birthday present, so in fact it was
the only single I had for about three months. It's great to be part of
something special, it's different, it's drawing attention to a whole new
generation. It raises awareness for people of a younger age. When I was at
that age, at 13, and when I watched all those videos, I then went on to
run Sport Aid and my dad actually did the Live Aid book. It really hit me
between the eyes that you could actually do something outside your
environment. It's the only time I've actually met Bob Geldof, after Sport
Aid. He took my cheque for £400 or something, gave me a hug and said,
"Thank you." He's a great man and it just blew me away. I love the way
he's so honest and just gets on with the job. With this new Band Aid
single the biggest names have got involved. I mean I can't believe that so
many people came together that quickly. It's so impressive."

times as many copies as the track at number 2, (Ice Cube Featuring
Mack 10 & Ms Toi, 'You Can Do It' which sold 20,953 copies) making it the
fastest selling single since Elton John's Princess Diana tribute single
'Candle In The Wind 97', which sold 3.4 million copies in its first week.

at Air Studios in London and will raise money for famine relief in the
Darfur region of Sudan. The single will be titled Band Aid 20 to mark the
20th anniversary of the original song, which featured stars such as George
Michael, Duran Duran and Phil Collins.
Bob Geldof has said the recording of the new Band Aid charity single was
"firing the starting pistol" to raise funds and awareness for Africa.
He was joined by about 40 leading names of the music scene for a fresh
version of 1984 single.
Some of the stars had already recorded their contributions before
yesterday, with Sir Paul McCartney adding his bass guitar section on
Friday. Dido, Robbie Williams, Thom Yorke, Dizzee Rascal and Coldplay's
Chris Martin had also already recorded their parts and were not in the
studio yesterday. Blur singer Damon Albarn served tea for the artists
and crew, who have donated their time, but he didn't sing. U2's Bono flew
in late yesterday to add his famous line "Well, tonight thank God it's
them instead of you." Dido's is the second artist to sing on the single
after Coldplay's Chris Martin, her lines are "And in our world of plenty
we can spread a smile of joy, Throw your arms around the world at
Christmas time."
The full Band Aid 20 line-up is: Chris Martin, Sir Paul McCartney, Bob
Geldof, Midge Ure, Radiohead, Robbie Williams, Dido, Bono, Daniel
Bedingfield, Natasha Bedingfield, Turin Brakes, The Thrills, Will Young,

2004. It will make its debut on the nation's airwaves tomorrow morning at
8.00am and the video is unveiled on Thursday 18th November 2004 at 5.50pm
on all five terrestrial TV channels, Sky One and other digital channels in
the UK, Madonna will be seen introducing it. Retailers expect to sell
about 500,000 copies in its first week, but bookmakers think it could be
the biggest-selling record since Elton John's Princess Diana tribute
single 'Candle In The Wind 97', which sold 3.4 million copies in its first
week. 'Do They Know It's Christmas?' is expected to go straight to number
1 and stay there until Christmas, where it's the odds-on favourite to be

Dido amongst others has been asked to appear on a new version of the charity song 'Do They

under the name Band Aid, had approached a series of current star musicians to do a re-recording.
Others billed to appear are Robbie Williams, Keane, Coldplay, and The Darkness.
Midge Ure, formerly frontman of British group Ultravox said, "It's definitely going to happen.
I'm very excited, this project is not just about raising money. It's about putting the focus
back on Africa and the problem of famine which has not gone away. The line-up proves that this
country is brimming with talent and the big names approached seem very keen."
The original Band Aid record shot to the top of charts around the world in 1984 and raised
huge ammounts of money for African famine relief. The new Band Aid recording is already
odds-on favourite to be the Christmas 2004 number 1 in the UK.

21st July 2004 - BMG/Sony Merge
Dido's record label BMG has been allowed by the European Commission to
merge with Sony, despite protests from many independent record labels,
who said the merger would lead to a lessoning in consumer choice. But the
European Commission accepted the majors' claims that the move was
essential for their future survival. The merger, which will become a 50-50
joint venture called Sony BMG, reduces the number of so-called music
majors from five to four. However, French group Vivendi Universal's music
arm retains the number one spot in Europe, the European Commission said.
Sony BMG will be headquartered in New York and will bring together a
series of record labels including Sony's Columbia and Epic and BMG's
Arista and RCA.
20th July 2004 - Life For Rent Repackaged Postponed
The repackaged version of 'Life For Rent' has now been postponed for the

the album, containing enhanced CD-rom videos and mixes of 'White Flag' and
'Stoned'. BMG's postponement of the CD was due to an excess of stock of
current 'Life For Rent' albums. No new date has been announced, but it's
possible it might coincide with the live DVD release around Christmas time.

heavier than the album, there is a lot of rock in it. And I have started
playing guitar which is also interesting – I'm working on it. I always
played but badly, because I have never devoted time to playing properly.
It has been fun recently, it's a bit of a new challenge."

We did a couple of production rehearsals there and then kicked off the
tour finally at the Eric Harvie Theatre. Wondered why I was getting so out
of breath and then realised we were at altitude!
Singing at altitude is sort of fun. I didn't get to go skiing. Everyone
was too worried I'd break my leg. Went bowling for the first time in my
life instead. And put my shoulder out.
Anyway, we had a great show. I'm so happy to be back on tour at last. It's
been two years since I've done a proper gig!
Today we had an 18 hour bus journey to Victoria, BC. Saw a moose, a bear,
some seals, and a 'whale' that turned out to be a floating log on the way.

5th April 2004 - My Album Is Better
Faithless star Rollo Armstrong says his group's new album, 'No Roots'
knocks the spots off anything his sister Dido has recorded even though he
helps make her records. Rollo insists 'No Roots' is better than the albums
he has made for Dido. "She loves it as much as we do" he said.
"For me, this is definitely the best album I have ever made, including my
Sisters."
The new album features Dido on the title track and Sister Bliss hasn't
ruled out the possibility that Dido could join them on stage. "We made the
album, sat with it, pulled it apart, re-did it and there was one thing
that was missing a female voice" said Bliss. "Luckily Dido loved it and
came up with something. It's very short, it's a cameo role. But it was
actually because the music needed it rather than a cynical attempt to use
Rollo's sister to sell a few more million records. She sings on the title
track 'No Roots' which is also the theme tune to the series with
Caroline Quentin called 'Life Begins'. It's doubtful whether Dido will
join us at T in the Park. It depends on the part of the world she is in.
She has her own tour all over the world and it's all kicking off.
'No Roots' will be released in the UK on Monday 7th June 2004.

It features kids aged 16 and under taking a trip through the magical doors
and emerging as sound a likes of their favourite singing superstars. On
tonight's show 14-year-old Steph from the Wirral performed as Dido and she
sang 'Life For Rent'. Unfortunately she wasn't the audiences favourite, so
she didn't win an automatic place in the final, however viewers could vote
for their favourite out of the four remaining performers. The performer with
the most public votes over the whole series gets a special place in the
final.
You may remember on last years 'Stars In Their Eyes: Kids' 13-year-old
Rebecca from Dublin performed as Dido and she won through to the final
where she came eighth.

24th March 2004 - Lucky Lucy Meets Dido
A UK student jetted off to South Africa for the weekend to catch
up with Dido while she was filming her new video. Prize winner Lucy
enjoyed the trip of a lifetime after winning a competition on UK radio
station Beacon FM.
"I said I would give them my first-born and tattoo their names on my body
if I won. About an hour and a half later they called to say I had won but
luckily I don't have to keep the promises I made. Although they did make
me sing a Dido song in a South African accent live on air."
Just days later Lucy was whisked to the airport and flown thousands of
miles. She and a friend met Dido, together with the cast and crew on the
set for the "Don't Leave Home" video.
Lucy said it was a "unforgettable experience" adding that Dido had even
remarked what a great prize it was as the two met up near Cape Town.
"You had to text in the word South Africa to the station with a message to
get you noticed, it was really wonderful and everyone was great, Dido was

need time to come to terms with what has happened."

She said, "The last year has been absolutely fantastic for me. However, the
continual commitment to events, promotion and TV appearances has meant
that any time for being creative has been non-existent. I'm therefore
really excited to be clearing the decks and making space to write and
record. I've also been desperate to get out on the road and this now means

cause. Her lawyers shut the website after finding it misinterpreting 'White Flag' and

reckoned both songs could be taken to be about white supremacy.
Dido was outraged when she learned of her presence on the website and called her record label,
BMG immediately. They contacted record watchdog the British Phonographic Industry and the
website was shut within an hour.
An insider at BMG said, "Dido was horrified when she found out about the site. Anyone who knows
her would see their views are completely the opposite of hers. She's fuming about it but happy
they've shut it down."

Dido will be featured in the February 2004 issue of the UK magazine, 'Red'.

Dido is Britain's richest and most successful female recording artist, but
personal happiness has eluded her.
Now, after two traumatic break-ups, Dido has revealed that she has found
love again and is celebrating with a dramatic new image - the singer best
known as a blonde now has russet coloured hair.
Dismissing reports that she had returned to her ex-boyfriend, record mogul
Ferdie Unger-Hamilton, she tells 'Red' magazine: "Nope I'd gone shopping
with him, that's all." And is she seeing anyone now? "Yep. But that's all I'm saying."
In the interview, the 32-year-old also spoke about the trauma of her
father William's illness. She has been keeping a vigil at his bedside at
London's UCL hospital since he had a stroke in the autumn. She says "Last
year I got into a routine, go to the hospital, make the record, go back to
the hospital."
Dido also reveals that, despite reports that she is worth more than £20
million, she worries about overspending as her family was short of money
when she was young. She says "When I went to Westminster (School), all my
friends had tons of money. I'd go to secondhand shops and Mum would tell
me I looked good." And that thriftiness appears to have rubbed off. "I'm
obsessed with price tags. It has to make me look pretty damned amazing if
I'm going to spend a fortune on it."
The full interview appears in the February 2004 issue of 'Red' magazine
which is out on Friday 9th January 2004.
